Straitened Times

The story follows a young man living in a small religious commune alongside a Mother Superior, a Father figure, and two novice sisters. Their peaceful life is suddenly disrupted when the Father is arrested for financial crimes, leaving the group without stability or income. Forced to relocate, they end up in a run-down motel with very limited resources. With the previous leader gone, the protagonist must step up and take responsibility for the group’s future. As they struggle to survive and rebuild, new challenges, relationships, and choices begin to shape their lives in unexpected ways.

Straitened Times features sandbox style gameplay where players manage daily activities, resources, and relationships. Players can explore different choices that influence how the story unfolds, including how the protagonist supports the commune and interacts with its members. Dialogue decisions, time management, and exploration unlock new scenes and events. The game offers multiple paths and outcomes depending on player choices, encouraging replayability and experimentation.

The protagonist becomes the central figure responsible for guiding the group after their financial collapse. The commune members include a Mother Superior, two novice women, and other supporting characters encountered throughout the story. Each character has their own personality, background, and evolving relationship with the protagonist. Interactions with them play a key role in shaping both the narrative and progression.
